1. Project Overview
This project involves the specialized renovation and supporting reconstruction of a hospital hybrid interventional MRI operating room, which is a high-standard special operating room. The scope of construction includes cleanroom finishing, non-magnetic structural works, RF shielding construction, sterile ground treatment, antibacterial wall and ceiling installation, fitting of non-magnetic medical accessories, finishing of clean air conditioning systems, noise reduction, dust prevention and overall system optimization for the main MRI operating room, equipment room, auxiliary corridor and buffer room.
This room is designed for dual purposes: 1.5T MRI scanning and surgical operations. It must simultaneously meet four sets of criteria: operating room cleanliness standards, hospital infection control requirements, non-magnetic safety specifications for MRI equipment, and anti-interference RF shielding standards.
2. Construction Preparation
- Carry out on-site verification of structural dimensions, floor height, load capacity, equipment positioning, shielding openings and air conditioning points. Check the special drawings of the hybrid operating room and confirm that the civil engineering base meets the construction requirements.
- Strict material management: All incoming panels, hardware and fasteners shall be non-magnetic, medical antibacterial and operating-room-specific materials. Ferrous and ferromagnetic materials are strictly prohibited. All materials shall be submitted for inspection and approval in advance.
- Divide the site into separate zones for cleanroom construction, shielding works and decoration. Implement zoned operation with strict dust and pollution control to meet the cleanliness requirements of operating room construction.
- Deliver special technical disclosure to construction teams, focusing on non-magnetic installation techniques, shielding welding procedures, clean edge finishing standards, and aseptic construction specifications for operating rooms.
3. Key Construction Procedures
3.1 Floor Construction (Surgical-grade Sterile Flooring)
- Level the base course and implement multi-layer waterproof and moisture-proof treatment to prevent dampness and bacterial growth.
- Conduct precision leveling, reinforcement and shock absorption for the travelling path of MRI equipment and the base of the operating table, so as to guarantee stable movement of equipment during surgery.
- Lay seamless non-magnetic antibacterial anti-static flooring dedicated to operating rooms, with fully curved internal corners and no dead corners. The floor is resistant to repeated disinfection, dust-free and easy to clean, complying with operating room cleanliness codes.
3.2 RF Shielding System Construction (Core MRI Works)
- Build a fully enclosed hexahedral RF shielding enclosure. All shielding plates are fully welded with continuous, full welds. Cold joints and missing welds are not allowed to ensure the integrity of the shielding body.
- Install dedicated MRI shielding doors and shielding observation windows with tightly fitted knife-edge contacts and qualified overlapping dimensions to avoid electromagnetic leakage.
- Seal all openings for ventilation, power supply, water pipelines and signal cables with waveguide windows and RF filters to maintain shielding integrity and eliminate image interference and artifacts during scanning.
3.3 Wall and Ceiling Cleanroom Decoration
- Assemble non-magnetic antibacterial clean color steel panels on walls with tight seamless joints. The panels are resistant to iodophor, alcohol and various medical disinfectants, with excellent mildew-proof, antibacterial and dust-free performance.
- Install lightweight non-magnetic ceiling systems matched with air supply and return ducts to maintain qualified airflow organization inside the operating room.
- All internal corners, trim strips, screws and fittings must be dedicated non-magnetic parts, so as to avoid magnetic interference and potential safety hazards caused by ferromagnetic metals.
3.4 Installation of Cleanroom & Non-magnetic Auxiliary Facilities
- All lighting units, shadowless lamp bases, sockets and junction boxes adopt dedicated non-magnetic medical products, arranged strictly in line with the functional flow of the operating room.
- Modify the air purification and fresh air systems to match the shielding structure, ensuring ventilation and purification performance without breaking the shielding enclosure.
- Complete airtight sealing, dust control, noise reduction and antibacterial finishing to form an aseptic environment with constant temperature, constant humidity and low noise for surgical operations.
4. Quality Control Measures
- Zero-tolerance Control on Ferromagnetic Materials: No ferromagnetic metal is permitted on site throughout construction, eliminating magnetic field deviation, image artifacts and equipment safety risks from the source.
- Shielding Integrity Control: Strictly inspect weak points including welds, door & window joints and pipeline openings to prevent signal leakage and crosstalk.
- Operating Room Cleanliness Control: Ensure seamless panels, curved corners with no dead ends, dust-free surface and high disinfection resistance to satisfy the aseptic requirements of surgical operations.
- Compatibility Control for Hybrid Functions: Meet the multi-standard requirements including surgical operation, sterile environment, MRI imaging performance and electromagnetic shielding.
5. Acceptance Criteria
- The RF shielding effectiveness shall reach no less than 80dB at 100MHz with zero electromagnetic leakage, delivering clear MRI images without artifacts.
- The entire room shall adopt a fully non-magnetic structure with no exposed ferromagnetic fittings or iron components, satisfying the safe operation requirements of 1.5T MRI equipment.
- The room shall reach Class 10,000 cleanliness standard for operating rooms, with qualified antibacterial, dust-proof and anti-static performance, complying with hospital infection control and surgical specifications.
- All shielding, cleanroom and decoration joints shall pass inspection. Complete technical documents shall be prepared for acceptance by the hospital, equipment manufacturer and third-party testing institutions.
