I. Standard Dimensions of CT Room

1. Scan Room (Core Room)

  • Minimum floor area: ≥30
  • Minimum single side length: ≥4.5 m
  • Common standard dimensions
  • Conventional 16/32/64-slice CT: 5.0 m × 6.0 m (30 )
  • High-end CT (128-slice and above): 5.5 m × 6.5 m or 6.0 m × 6.0 m
  • Clear height: ≥3.0 m; 3.2 m and above is recommended to reserve space for ceiling, air conditioning and pipelines

2. Control Room (Operation Room)

  • Floor area: ≥15
  • Common size: approx. 4.0 m × 4.0 m
  • Observation window layout: Facing the scanning area for clear patient observation

1. Radiation Shielding Specifications

Ceiling shielding schemes

  1. Welded keel + fire retardant board + lead sheet
  1. Welded keel + lead-wood composite panel
  1. Barium sulfate layer on the floor of the upper floor
  1. Welded keel + barium sulfate shielding board
  1. Barium sulfate plaster on ceiling surface

Wall shielding schemes

  1. Barium sulfate plaster coating

Floor shielding schemes

  1. Lead sheet under floor screed
  • Lead equivalency: Walls, ceiling and floor shall be ≥4.0 mmPb; acceptable shielding materials include barium sulfate shielding mortar, lead sheet, lead-wood composite panel and barium sulfate shielding board.
  • Lead equivalency of shielding door and observation window: ≥4.0 mmPb.
  • All holes for penetrating pipelines and wire trunkings shall be fully sealed with lead sheets to prevent radiation leakage.
  • Mandatory door-machine interlock system: X-ray exposure is disabled if the door is not fully closed.

2. Structural & Load-Bearing Requirements

  • Floor load capacity: ≥5.0 kN/
  • Equipment foundation or vibration isolation base is recommended for large CT scanners.
  • Walls are suggested to be cast concrete or solid brick wall; lightweight hollow structures are prohibited.
  • Opening dimensions for motorized radiation shielding door: ≥1400 mm (W) × ≥2000 mm (H)
  • Opening dimensions for manual radiation shielding door: ≥800 mm (W) × ≥2000 mm (H)
  • Opening dimensions of lead shielding observation window: ≥1200 mm (W) × ≥800 mm (H), with bottom edge 950 mm above finished floor.
  • Ionizing radiation warning signs and operation indicator lights shall be installed outside both motorized and manual shielding doors.

3. Compliance & Inspection Procedures

A pre-construction radiation shielding assessment shall be completed prior to construction. Third-party acceptance radiation testing is required upon project completion to apply for the Radiation Safety License.
