Industrial Inspection Room Shielding Solution


I. Mandatory National Standard Dimensions (Full Compliance Required)

Radiographic Testing Main Bunker

  • Minimum effective floor area: ≥30
  • Minimum single side length: ≥4.5 m
  • Clear height: ≥3.2 m (3.5 m and above recommended), to reserve sufficient space for workpiece transportation, radiographic equipment placement, overhead crane operation and manual inspection.

Operator Control Room

  • Floor area: ≥15 ; clear height: ≥2.8 m
  • Independently partitioned and set away from the direct primary radiation beam direction.

Equipment Foundation & Auxiliary Structure

Construction of load-bearing equipment base, fixed support brackets and workpiece storage platforms for industrial flaw detectors shall strictly comply with manufacturer’s official drawings. Tracks and limiting devices shall be pre-reserved for large mobile radiographic testing equipment.

Wall Structural Requirements

Reinforced concrete or solid brick-concrete composite walls are mandatory; lightweight hollow wall structures are strictly prohibited.

  • Primary shielding wall thickness: ≥370 mm
  • Secondary shielding wall thickness: ≥240 mm
    The above standards eliminate ionizing radiation penetration and leakage risks.

Radiation Shielding Door Opening Dimensions

  1. Motorized heavy-duty radiographic shielding door (main workpiece access passage): ≥1800 mm × ≥2200 mm
  1. Manual shielding door (emergency personnel passage): ≥900 mm × ≥2100 mm

Lead Shielding Observation Window Specifications

  • Opening dimension: ≥1200 mm × ≥800 mm
  • The bottom edge of the window shall be 950 mm above finished floor.
  • Special high lead-equivalency radiographic lead glass shall be adopted.

Warning Signs & Status Indicators

Standard ionizing radiation warning signs, "No Unauthorized Personnel Allowed" labels and operation status indicator lights shall be prominently mounted outside all shielding doors. The indicator lights stay illuminated constantly during equipment exposure as a visual warning.

Lead Equivalency Standards

  • Primary radiation walls, ceiling and floor for industrial radiography: ≥4.0 mmPb
  • Lateral scattered radiation side walls: ≥3.0 mmPb
    Applicable shielding materials: industrial-grade lead sheet, high-density barium sulfate, lead-wood composite shielding panel, high-strength barium sulfate shielding board.

Lead Equivalency for Shielded Doors & Observation Windows

Shielding doors and observation windows shall reach a lead equivalency of ≥4.0 mmPb, consistent with the shielding grade of primary radiation walls.

Penetration Hole Sealing Requirements

All cable trunking openings, pipeline penetration holes, ventilation outlets and wiring gaps for equipment must be fully wrapped and sealed with integral cut lead sheets, compacted to eliminate all radiation leakage gaps.

Mandatory Door-Machine Interlock System

Radiographic exposure cannot be activated unless all shielding doors are fully closed and securely latched. An emergency stop power cut-off function is integrated into the system.

Safety Auxiliary Facilities

The testing bunker shall be equipped with audio-visual alarm system, safety warning guardrails and emergency evacuation signage to meet industrial radiographic safety management standards.
