I. Mandatory National Standard Dimensions (Full Compliance Required)

Scan Room (Main Equipment Bunker)

  • Minimum effective floor area: ≥35
  • Minimum single side length: ≥5.5 m
  • Clear height: ≥3.2 m (3.5 m and above is recommended)

Control Room

  • Floor area: ≥20
  • Clear height: ≥2.8 m

Auxiliary Supporting Zones

  1. Radionuclide Storage Room
    Floor area ≥8 , equipped with independent radiation shielding and separated from other functional areas.
  1. Injection Room
    Floor area ≥10 , adjacent to the scan room to allow immediate scanning after radiopharmaceutical injection.

Equipment Foundation & Pipeline Layout

Construction of PET-CT equipment base, radionuclide delivery pipelines and cable trenches shall strictly follow the official construction drawings provided by the equipment manufacturer.

Wall Structure Requirements

Reinforced concrete walls or solid brick walls are recommended; lightweight hollow wall structures are prohibited.

  • Primary shielding wall thickness: ≥370 mm
  • Secondary shielding wall thickness: ≥240 mm

Radiation Shielding Door Opening Sizes

  1. Motorized radiation shielding door (patient & equipment passage for scan room): ≥1800 mm × ≥2200 mm
  1. Manual radiation shielding door (staff & emergency passage): ≥900 mm × ≥2100 mm
  1. Dedicated shielding door for radionuclide storage room: ≥800 mm × ≥2000 mm

Lead Shielding Observation Window Specifications

  • Window between scan room and control room: Opening size ≥1500 mm × ≥1000 mm
  • Window for radionuclide storage room: Opening size ≥600 mm × ≥500 mm
  • The bottom edge of all windows shall be 950 mm above finished floor; double-layer vacuum lead glass is optional for shielding.

Warning Signage & Indicator Lights

Ionizing radiation warning signs and scanning operation indicator lights shall be installed outside all motorized and manual shielding doors.
Additional warning labels marked "Radioactive Hazard" and "No Open Flames" shall be posted on the exterior of the radionuclide storage room.

Standard Ceiling Shielding Construction Schemes

  1. Welded keel frame + fire-retardant board + thickened lead sheet + barium sulfate shielding layer
  1. Welded keel frame + lead-wood composite shielding panel + fireproof & moisture-proof base layer
  1. Composite shielding: barium sulfate mortar + lead sheet laid on the floor of the upper floor
  1. Welded keel frame + barium sulfate shielding board + lead sheet

Standard Wall Shielding Construction Schemes

  1. Troweled high-density barium sulfate mortar + lead sheet composite shielding
  1. Welded keel frame + thickened lead sheet (for primary direct radiation zones)
  1. Welded keel frame + precast barium sulfate shielding board
  1. Welded keel frame + lead-wood composite shielding panel
  1. Double-layer shielding: lead sheet + barium sulfate mortar (for radionuclide handling areas)

  1. Barium sulfate shielding layer + lead sheet + anti-slip & anti-corrosion finish (for scan rooms and radionuclide zones)

Lead Equivalency Standards

  1. Scan Room
  • Primary direct radiation walls: ≥4.0 mmPb
  • Side walls, ceiling and floor (scattered radiation areas): ≥3.0 mmPb
  1. Radionuclide Storage Room & Injection Room
  • All walls and floors: ≥3.0 mmPb
    Applicable shielding materials: barium sulfate mortar/sand, pure lead sheets, lead-wood composite panels and precast barium sulfate shielding boards. Anti-corrosion shielding materials shall be adopted for areas with direct radionuclide contact.

Lead Equivalency for Shielded Doors & Observation Windows

  • Scan room doors & windows: ≥4.0 mmPb
  • Radionuclide storage room & injection room doors & windows: ≥3.0 mmPb

Pipeline Penetration Sealing Rules

All penetration holes for power cables, signal trunkings and radionuclide delivery pipelines shall be double-sealed with lead sheets plus sealing compound to block ionizing radiation and prevent radioactive leakage.

Safety Interlock & Access Control Systems

  1. Mandatory door-scanner interlock system: X-ray exposure is disabled if any shielding door is not fully closed.
  1. Access control system for radionuclide storage room: entry is restricted to authorized personnel only.

Specialized Radionuclide Protection Configurations

  1. Radionuclide Storage Room: Lead-lined storage cabinets (≥5.0 mmPb lead equivalency), dedicated ventilation system and radioactive spill collection troughs.
  1. Injection Room: Mobile lead shielding barriers and radioactive contamination decontamination equipment.

Compliance Acceptance Process

A pre-construction radiation shielding safety assessment must be completed prior to construction. Upon project completion, third-party radiation shielding acceptance testing is required to apply for the official Radiation Safety License.
