Lead glass manufacturers suggest that special care should be taken in the cleaning methods for lead glass, as improper cleaning methods can damage the lead glass and affect its lifespan.

The cleaning of lead glass generally uses strong acid oxidizing agents. The strong acid oxidizing agent solution is made from potassium dichromate and concentrated sulfuric acid. K2Cr2O7 has strong oxidizing ability in acidic solutions and has little corrosive effect on glass instruments, so this solution is widely used in the cleaning of lead glass.

When using this type of solution, it is important to ensure that it does not splash onto the body to prevent 'burning' through clothing and damaging the skin. When pouring the solution into the instrument to be cleaned, make sure to fully immerse the walls of the instrument and let it sit for a while before pouring it back into the solution bottle.

After initially rinsing the just-cleaned instrument with a small amount of water, do not pour the wastewater into the sink or drain, as it will corrode them over time. It should be poured into a waste liquid tank for centralized treatment.

Alkaline cleaning solutions may also be used when cleaning lead glass. Alkaline solutions are used to wash lead glass that has oil stains. When retrieving lead glass from alkaline solutions, latex gloves should be worn to avoid skin burns.

If there are slight mold spots on the surface of lead glass due to improper protection, they can be removed by wiping with a cotton ball soaked in anhydrous alcohol.
